Don’t miss the Houston Museum of Natural Science’s new special exhibition, Fabergé: Royal Gifts featuring the Trellis Egg Surprise. This monumental display invites you to experience the design, artistry, and craftsmanship of the renowned Fabergé workmasters, one of the most famous and historic jewelry firms in the world.

Fabergé: Royal Gifts features over 600 pieces of the finest jewelry crafting and explores the international politics, diplomacy, economics, and innovation that is attached to these prized pieces from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Beginning with the magnificent crown jewels of Catherine the Great, the development of Peter Carl Fabergé’s techniques, inspiration, and royal patrons are explored through this in-depth exhibition.

The highlight of the show is the surprise for the Diamond Trellis Egg, an Easter gift from Tsar Alexander III to Tsarina Maria Feodorovna in 1892. This Imperial Easter Egg will be exhibited with the small jeweled mechanical elephant that was the Egg’s original surprise gift hidden inside, a reoccurring feature that Fabergé Eggs became famous for. The reunion of the two pieces is made possible by a loan from the British Royal Collection on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, and it is the first time these pieces have been seen together in over 80 years. Be sure to see them in person at this history-making exhibit!
