The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston welcomes the community to view its latest exhibition, Radical: Italian Design 1965–1985 on Friday, February 14th—just in time for Valentine’s Day. An exhibition that examines Italy’s postwar explosion of disruptive design, "Radical: Italian Design 1965–1985" presents furniture, lighting design, architectural models, paintings, and other objects drawn from the landmark collection of Dennis Freedman.

The first U.S. museum exhibition in nearly 50 years to survey this pivotal movement in design history, Radical Italian Design showcases prototypes, one-of-a-kind, and limited-edition works by architects, designers, and collectives such as Archizoom Associati, Lapo Binazzi, Ugo La Pietra, Alessandro Mendini, Gianni Pettena, Ettore Sottsass, Studio Alchimia, and Superstudio.

Of the works on view, about half are gifts of Dennis Freedman and half are acquisitions from his collection. In addition, Freedman has lent more than a dozen objects to the exhibition. Together, the gifts and acquisitions establish a foundational collection for the MFAH. Following the opening day, the exhibition will be on display until April 26, 2020.

The venue for this exhibition is among the 10 largest art museums in the United States, with an encyclopedic collection of nearly 70,000 works dating from antiquity to the present. The Museum’s encyclopedic collections include in-depth holdings of American art, European paintings, Pre-Columbian and African gold, decorative arts and design, photography, prints and drawings, 20th- and 21st-century painting and sculpture, and Latin American art.

General admission prices will vary. The museum provides free general admission to active members of the U.S. military and reserves with valid ID, as well as to military families with dependent cards. For additional information, please visit www.mfah.org, or call 713-639-7300.
